3 Months Old

This is a couple weeks old, so already some of it has changed.  That's the fun thing about having a baby, you never know what the next day holds :)

Likes:
  • His momma :)
  • Riding and napping in his Beco (everyone I meet says they've seen me walking town around wearing him)
  • Play Mat - especially his Squirrely - he really started interacting with the toys this month
  • Books
  • Songs: I've Got the Joy, Oh How We Love Jesus, The Farmer in the Dell, The Itsy, Bitsy Spider - these all make him smile.  I don't think he knows the real version of these songs though, because his Momma likes to make up her own words.  According to Daddy, she also makes up her own notes :)
  • Tummy time - he is able to hold his head up for long periods of time now
  • Sitting up (with assistance)

Dislikes:
  • Carseat (cries the minute the car starts moving)
  • Swing
  • Napping anywhere or on anyone but Momma
  • Baths
  • Being held by strangers
  • Stroller
  • Bottles
  • Loud noises

Big moments:
  • Rolled over front to back - did it 3 times in a row, but hasn't done it much since then
  • Sleeps 8:30-7:30, wakes up twice
  • Grandma Pegelow visited
  • Daddy went on a trip, and Elias decided to wake up more often at night (8 times one night).  We think he missed his Daddy!
  • Slept in a hotel in Chicago and Utah
  • Flew to Utah with a layover in Denver (managed a different time zone)
  • Attended his first wedding
  • Went to MOPS (but stayed with his Momma instead of going to the nursery)

This month, he really became more interactive.  He watches me when I sing songs and smiles as soon as I start singing a song he knows.  He loves watching the hand motions for The Itsy, Bitsy Spider.  He is gaining control over his arms and hands and has really started using his fingers to grab things.   He will swing really hard and fast if he's trying to make a toy jingle, but he reaches really gently if he is trying to grab on to the toy.  He is a sweet, sensitive little man who definitely knows what he likes and dislikes.  He is not fussy, but doesn't seem laid back.  He is definitely a momma's boy and loves to cuddle with her.

Staying in Hotels

Elias did so well sleeping in hotels! Before setting out for Chicago (where we were flying out the next day), we did his usual night time routine but put him in his carseat with a paci instead of his bed. He slept the whole way to Chicago! When we arrived at our hotel, we put a blanket over his carseat when we carried him.  He nursed and then went right back to sleep in his pack n play!  He also did very well sleeping at the hotel in Salt Lake City.

Here he is relaxing in our Chicago hotel the next morning:

This bed is so comfy.

Maybe I'd take naps by myself if you swapped my pack n play for a king size bed.

Meeting Kezia

My friend Kezia came to visit us and meet Elias.  He was smitten; he let her hold him for a nap and then spent a long time talking to her and smiling at her.  He would look right at her as he talked to her, and was so happy to converse with her.  It is so sweet watching how interactive and attentive he is these days.  I recorded a bit of his time with her, although he got a little distracted by Momma's camera.

New Trick!

This afternoon Elias rolled from his stomach to his back all by himself, no pillow to help him this time!  I thought maybe I had set him down too quickly and he had just lost his balance so I set him back up and watched to see if he could do it again.  He did!  When he landed on his back, his eyes got wide and he looked shocked.  I thought he might cry, but he just looked around stunned.  Testing my luck, I got out the camera to try and capture it for his daddy.  Good thing we got it, because when Conor got home, Elias was worn out and not up to doing it again.

(Lizzie, sorry Conor was not around when I taped this video.  I know you love his commentary.)
